When a new route permit is issued to a person, he will be able to register a brand new bus in RPTA system or he can buy a bus which has already been registered in RPTA system and running in different route. In this situation ownership of the bus will be changed according to the new route permit holder’s name and remove that bus from its original route. In this case the new permit holder will be placed at the end of the of route permit holders list of that route. In addition to the above mentioned documents, the following additional documents will have to be submitted in order to transfer the ownership to new owners.

If the bus is going to be sold to the external person who is not going to use it in a route in north western province, the previous bus owner has to give a letter to the RPTA office saying that to remove the bus from his file. Then the bus will be removed from the RPTA system and the RPTA will issue a release letter to the bus owner. RPTA in NWP also has Sisu Sariya buses providing the service to the students in NWP. The students who come from villages to the schools in towns can come from a RPTA registered Sisu Sariya bus in a half rate of the bus fare. Charges will be given bellow.

All the buses of the RPTA have to renew the RPTA license annually. The bus owners have to produce the following documents with the annual license fee to renew their RPTA Bus Licenses. The required documents are as follows:

The RPTA registered buses are normally used to go on trips by the people. Most of the time they will cross the provinces and go to the different places. There is a rule that if a bus that belongs to a particular RPTA of any province, wants to go on trips to different provinces must inform to the registered RPTA and get a temporary permit to go on trips. Otherwise the other provincial RPTA can fine to the bus because of not having a valid temporary permit. These temporary permits will be issued by the regional offices which are placed in the main bus stands. Places that the temporary permits are issued from Kurunegala, Chilaw, Puttalm, Narammala, Wariyapola, Kuliyapitiya, and Madampe to, sub offices and field officers as well as the buses. Also to avoid the inconveniences of coming main bus stands to get the temporary permits the sub offices and field officers are issuing these temporary permits. Hence, the owners will be able to get those permits without coming to the RPTA head office.
Issuing a Temporary Permit for the trips.When the bus owners want the permits for special tours, they normally get it form the sub offices and field officers. The following documents are needed to issue the permits.

The Provincial buses as well as inter provincial buses that have been registered in National Transport Commission (NTC) must have a valid Log Sheets to enter the provincial bus stands otherwise they don’t have the authority to get the passengers to the buses from those bus stands. Therefore the RPTA of the provinces issue Log Sheets for those inter provincial buses. The Log sheets for those buses can be purchased from the RPTA sub stations and from field officers and the bus owners will have to purchase it before starting a new month. If they delay to get those permit in time, they will have to pay Rs. 100 late fee for each permit. Due to several reasons like painting and engine repair, if a bus does not run in the fixed route for the next month or sometime it hasn’t run for last couple of month then the bus owners must inform to the RPTA to make necessary arrangement to that route and they need not to buy the log sheets for those months. But they have to pay Rs. 100 for each month to keep the time table for the bus. The process of getting the log sheets for the buses can be explained as follows.

The buses have to issue the tickets to the passengers who travel the RPTA registered buses. The RPTA regularly check the buses and see whether they have issued the tickets to the passengers. The ticket books will be provided to the buses in concessional price and the buses have to buy form field officers at the bus stands.
